Will My Benefits Continue If I Get Married?

hi Im 47 getting benefits, I want to know if im getting married again.my benefits will continue or what.

Hi,

That depends on the type of benefits you're receiving. If you receive Social Security disability benefits (SSDI) based on your own work record then getting married would have no effect on your benefits. But, your benefits could be terminated due to marriage if you're receiving disabled adult child's (DAC) benefits on a parent's record or survivor benefits on a former spouse's record. Or, if you receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI), those payments could also be affected by marriage.

If you're considering getting married then I would suggest checking with Social Security first to see how it might affect your payments.

Best, Jerry
