Will I Get My Social Security Payments On The 1st Of The Month From Now On?

I always got my SSDI check on the 3rd of every month My first check under my reg SS started on Aug 1 and I got paid on the 1st will this be my date for checks from now on? My friend had the same situation but they didn't change the date of his pay why?

Hi,

No. The regular payment date for Social Security payments is never earlier than the 3rd day of a month. Social Security sometimes pays benefits earlier than that if the 3rd falls on a weekend or holiday, but that doesn't explain why you were paid on August 1st since the 3rd of August didn't fall on a weekend or holiday. So, it's a mystery.

By the way, most people are now paid on either the 2nd, 3rd or 4th Wednesday of the month depending on their birthday, but some people continue to be paid on the 3rd day of the month if they meet the requirements (https://www.ssa.gov/pubs/EN-05-10031-2020.pdf).

Best, Jerry
