Will I Be Able To Collect My Deceased Ex-Husband's Social Security?

I was married for10 years and then divorced my husband. He is now deceased. I remarried but am now 60 and my new husband is younger than me. He is only 54. He has decided that he wants a divorce. Will I be able to collect my deceased husbands social security?
Thank you.

Hi,

It sounds like you may qualify for surviving divorced spousal benefits if and when your current marriage ends (https://www.ssa.gov/OP_Home/handbook/handbook.04/handbook-0403.html). You might want to strongly consider using our maximization software to explore and compare all of your options in order to determine your best strategy with regard to claiming benefits.

Best, Jerry
