Why Was My Mother's Request For An Underpayment Rejected?

My father passed august 25, 2018. All year he received his deposit on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd of each month. In August when he died he received his deposit on 8/3/2018. He died August 25 and he received another deposit on August 31, 2018. A deposit went back to Social Security. Each payment is for the month prior. We filed the 1724 back in November 2019. They put us off over and over and over. Recently I was told moms claim on the 1724 was rejected. But no one could explain why. A manager was to call back that day or the next, no one ever called. This is the 3rd time no one ever called. 5 months we have been trying to deal with this issue and that's how were treated. Something is messed up here and we can not get anyone to explain. Who can help or how can we get help. The local office is a joke with the bullet proof glass and you can not hear them. Plus the last time we went there they did the opposite of moms request. Help. We don't understand what's happening and why her 1724 was rejected.

I'm sorry for your loss.

I'm sorry to have to deliver bad news, but based on your description it doesn't sound like any underpayment is due in your father's case. People who normally receive their Social Security payments on the 3rd day of a month are paid on the prior Friday if the 3rd falls on a weekend or holiday. September 3rd 2018 fell on labor day, so benefits due to be paid on that day were paid on the prior Friday, which was August 31st. Therefore, the payment your father was paid on August 31st was for the month of August, and he wasn't entitled to that payment because no benefits are payable for the month of a person's death.
