Why Does SS No Longer Allow Me To View My Benefit Online?

Hi Larry:
My DOB is 09/07/1951. My 1st wife DOB is 04/15/1950, with date of death of 10/23/2012. My 2nd marriage occurred 11/08/2015. I am now 68 years old.
The last time I was able to view and print my benefits off of the SS web site was 04/25/2017. My benefit at 66 was 2603/month. My benefit at 70 was 3490/month. I started to receive widowers benefit May of 2017.
Why does SS no longer allow me to view my benefit on line? I called SS on 09/06/2019 to see what my benefit was of this date, they said it was 2728/month. Shouldn't my benefit be half of the difference between age 70 and 66, or a total of 3046.5/month?
Thanks
Craig

Hi Craig,

One of the limitations of Social Security's website is that once you start drawing any type of benefits you can no longer obtain benefit estimates online. You'll have to ask them to explain why.

It sounds like when you called Social Security you were likely told your current primary insurance amount (PIA), which is the amount you would be drawing if you had filed for your own Social Security retirement benefits at full retirement age (FRA). Social Security's computer system doesn't automatically add delayed retirement credits (DRC) until a person actually applies for and starts drawing their benefits. So, the person that you spoke with would need to have calculated your DRCs manually in order to give you an accurate estimate.

Our software (https://maximizemysocialsecurity.com/purchase) could give you an accurate estimate of your current benefit rate inclusive of DRCs, so you may want to use it to do your Social Security planning.

Best, Jerry
