Why Did We Receive Our Payments On A Different Wednesday This Month?

Hi,
I am wondering why my husband & I got our Social Security payments direct deposited on Oct. 13th (the 2nd Tuesday of the month) but we normally receive payments the 3rd Wednesday of each month.

FYI in case it matters: We just started receiving Social Security this year. Hubby is claimed based on my record at present, will switch to his record when he reaches age 70. I do have a seasonal part-time job but will make probably $9500 or less by year's end.

Regards,
Diana

Hi Diana,

I can't really answer your question, but I can tell you when your and your husband's benefits should be paid. If you were born in the first 10 days of a month, your payments should arrive on the 2nd Wednesday of the month. If you were born from the 11th through 20th of a month, your payments should be deposited on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. And, if you were born after the 20th day of a month, your payments should come on the 4th Wednesday of the month (https://www.ssa.gov/pubs/EN-05-10031-2020.pdf).

Since your husband is currently drawing on your account, his payments should arrive on the same day as yours. Your birth day would determine when both of your payments are due. Your husband's payment date may change when he switches to drawing on his own account, though, depending on what day he was born.

Best, Jerry
