Why Did I Receive An Extra Payment From Social Security After I Turned Age 70?

Why did I receive an extra payment of Social security after I turned 70?

Hi,

I can't even make a guess without more information. If you were already drawing benefits before turning age 70, the act of reaching age 70 wouldn't make you eligible for an extra payment from Social Security or an increase in your benefit rate.

When Social Security issues payments in addition to a person's regular monthly benefit, they are supposed to send the person a notice to explain the reason for the payment within 14 days of the payment. If you don't receive such a notice, or if the notice doesn't adequately explain the payment you received, you can call Social Security to try to have them explain it to you.

Best, Jerry
