I get paid ssdi on the 3rd of the month and am born on the 23rd. Why am I getting punished for being born late in the month? My bills are at the beginning of the month
Hi. I don't know what your full circumstances are, but what I can tell you is that based on Social Security law the only people who should be getting paid on the 3rd day of the month are a) people who applied for benefits prior to April 30 1997, or b) people who also receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments, or c) people who are residing outside of the U.S. If you don't meet one of those exceptions, then based on your day of birth your Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits should be paid on the 4th Wednesday of the month (https://faq.ssa.gov/en-us/Topic/article/KA-01957).
The current Social Security law that governs which days of the month that people are paid was passed into law by Congress in the 1990s. Only Congress can change Social Security laws, so you may want to share your concerns with your representatives in Congress.
Best, Jerry
