When Would SSI Payments Start?

I have a SSI disability EOD question? I was told that benefits for SSI only begin the month after the application date (or a month after the protective filing date). Here is my question. Suppose you apply for SSI on August 1, 2017. Six months later, DDS approves your claim. They assign an exact EOD of August 1, 2017 (same as application date). Is your first SSI payment in Sept. or will it start from the month of August since the EOD was the 1st of the month?

Can you post a SSA link that explains this? Some say Aug. is included in the scenario I gave and others say payments start in Sept. so I am seeking clarification. Thank you--

Hi,

To clarify for other readers, SSI is an acronym for Supplemental Security Income, which are needs based payments administered by the Social Security Administration but not funded by Social Security taxes.

SSI payments aren't made for the month of filing, so the person's first payment in the scenario you describe would be for September (https://www.ssa.gov/OP_Home/handbook/handbook.21/handbook-2104.html).

Best, Jerry
