When Should My Wife File?

My wife is now 62 and has NOT WORKED since she was 20, she has spent her entire life taking care of me[100% service connected disabled wheelchair veteran]. When should she apply for SS? Thanks, Gary

Gary, it's just not possible to say without more information. She can file for her spousal benefit as early as 62 but it will be reduced. Or she could file for her unreduced spousal benefit if she waits until her full retirement age (FRA). Our software can determine how to get the highest household benefits and also let you enter what-if scenarios to see how they compare to each other and to the maximized strategy. Thanks, John
