When Is The Earliest That I Can File For My Maximum Benefit?

Larry,
I turn 70 August 9th 2022. When is the earliest I can file for the max benefit? Additionally, my wife turns 63 on August 23rd in the same year. We plan on waiting until her FRA for her benefit. Is that the best option ? Thanks.

Hi. You could apply as early as April 1st in order to claim your benefits effective with August. Your wife's best option for claiming her benefits depends on a number of different variables, so she should strongly consider using our software (https://maximizemysocialsecurity.com/purchase) to fully analyze all of her options so that she can determine the best overall strategy to maximize her benefits.

Best, Jerry
