What's The Best Filing Strategy For Us?

I'm 64 and retiring at 67. My wife is only 46, has a good job that pays more than mine. She may retire when she is 55. I will also collect a pension when I retire. Since my wife is so much younger, what would be the best strategy for SS benefits for us?

Hi,

If you both expect to live a long time, it's likely best for both of you to wait until age 70 to start drawing. No one can definitively say what the best strategy is, since it largely comes down to how long you and your wife end up living. If you haven't already done so, you may wish to consider running the maximization software available on this website. That will give you a better understanding of the long term effects of your filing decisions.

Best, Jerry
