What Kind Of Help Can I Get?

IAM 67 and only get 170.00 in ss what kind of help can I get? Living with friends trailer got condemned. Thank you.

Hi. My area of expertise is limited to Social Security benefits, so I can only address your question with regard to the benefit programs that Social Security administers. Social Security benefit amounts are based on the earnings history of the worker on whose record the benefits are based. You don't even mention what type of Social Security benefits you receive, so there's no way for me to know if you may be due any additional Social Security benefits.

Social Security does administer a needs based program called Supplemental Security Income (SSI). SSI is intended to provide a subsistence level income for people who have little or no other means of self-support (https://www.ssa.gov/ssi/). In order to qualify for SSI you must be either blind, disabled or at least age 65, so if you think that you may qualify you should call Social Security at 800-772-1213 to see about filing a claim.

Best, Jerry
