What Do I Need To Do To Continue Getting My Social Security Payments?

I lost my checkbook with my Account Information. How can I get redo my account information to continue getting my monthly Social Security check by the 4th Wednesday of the month?

Hi,

Losing your checkbook wouldn't affect your Social Security payments as long as you don't close your bank account. Ideally you don't want to close the bank account where your Social Security payments are directly deposited until your benefits have started going to a different account. If you do close your account and the bank receives a direct deposit to the closed account then the payment is returned to the U.S. Treasury Department. Social Security would then have to reissue the payment after they've received your new direct deposit account information.

If you want to change the account where your payments are deposited you should contact Social Security (https://www.ssa.gov/deposit/howtosign.htm).

Best, Jerry
