What Do I Do To Get My Medicare Premium Refund?

I paid for May and June 2021 Medicare Part B premiums via Easy Pay system. However, I started receiving my monthly SS benefits in May (having reached age 70), and again my Part B premiums were deducted for May and June. SSA "automatically" paid me back for May, but they never paid me back for June. I have called SSA three times to try to get my June payment refund. I have written TWICE to SSA to ask for the refund; no answer, no response, no refund. This "automatically will be paid back" scenario is not working for June. What do I do? Who do I contact? SSA seems broken right now. Being "patient" is not working.

Hi. The only thing I can suggest is contacting the offices of either your congressional representative or one of your U.S. senators to see if they'll make an inquiry on your behalf. Such congressional inquiries are common, and can often lead to an expedited resolution of a person's problem.

One thing I'll mention, though, is that Medicare premiums are deducted from Social Security benefits in the month that the premium is due. Social Security benefits, on the other hand, are paid a month behind. So, if a person is paid their regular Social Security payment in June, that is their Social Security benefit for May. But, the Medicare premium withheld from that payment would cover their Medicare premium for June.

Best, Jerry
