What Can I Receive From My Husband's Record?

my husband died in 1992. When i retire in June 2018, how will that affect the social security benefits i receive in his name?

Hi,

You could be eligible for widow's benefits of up to 100% of the benefit rate that your husband would have received. You can't receive both full widow's benefits and your own benefits, though, so it may be advantageous for you to apply for one benefit first and wait to file for the other benefit later. The maximization software available on this website can help you determine when to apply for each benefit in order to maximize your benefits.

Best, Jerry
