What Can I Do?

I am 55 and getting social security disability. I have been getting it for many years . I have gone through 20 back surgeries.lm unable to work. I have metal through outmyback and have a infection and broken rod. I receive $1,500 plus $134 for Medicare complete. I have almost no money in the bank 1-2 thousand. And the money doesn’t cover my monthly bill . Cost to live. I also have a service dog. What can I do ? I was told I can’t get Medicaid I make to much only by a little for one person. I am on a lot of medication. And in pain all the time. I am so scared please I need help .

Hi,

I wish that I could help you but I don't have any advice to offer. Social Security is my only area of expertise, and it sounds like you are already receiving those benefits. Social Security benefits are not adjusted to cover living expenses, but are instead calculated simply based on your earning history.

It also sounds like you have too much income to qualify for Supplemental Security Income (SSI), which is the needs based program that Social Security administers. Unfortunately, beyond those 2 programs I don't have a knowledge base that would permit me to offer you any advice. I hope that things will get better for you in the near future.

Best, Jerry
