Update On An Earlier Question

Hi Jerry,
I told you of my experience with Social Security attempting to suspend my benefit for several months until I am 70 in March.
I decided to ask Sherrod Brown's office for assistance. I explained my dilemma of 4 different representatives telling me I wasn't allowed to do it. There had been no indication my benefits were being suspended after the 4th rep agreed to submit a request saying there was a 10 month back-up . I mailed in the permission form Senator Brown's staff said they needed to proceed. Last Wednesday I received a call from the local SS district manager at ~08:35 AM on his day off. He hadn't done his homework thoroughly and insisted my request needed to be in writing. I explained what their web site clearly stated. I gave up after a bit and told him I was going to call Senator Brown again. He called back 5 minutes later and apologized telling me I was correct. He called back about 15 minutes later telling me my request was being processed to start this month. He called back Thursday morning ~8:35 again telling me that my benefit is suspended. I received the written notice from SS this week. Shouldn't have been necessary, but Senator Brown sure helped!
Thought you might enjoy this follow-up.

Hi. I'm glad to hear that your problem with Social Security has been resolved. Your story emphasizes the importance of understanding the Social Security regulations so that you don't fall victim to misinformation from a Social Security representative. It's a shame that you needed help from your U.S. senator to get Social Security to take the proper action, but the outcome in your case illustrates how impactful an inquiry from a senator or congressional representative can be.

Best, Jerry
