Is There Any Way Out For Us?

I retired on SSDI in 2001 I am currently 63, my husband retired on SSDI 3 years ago. we have very little to pay our bills with yet SSDI says we don't qualify for extra help our income is too much. the doughnut "hole" is now $9000 dollars a year to us. is there anything we can do at this point. we are fighting to hang on to our home but it becomes rougher every year. we earn $ 4,398 combined but payout$188 x2 for medicare part B, $900.00 for our mortgage, $1,600 2x a year for property tax, 2,600 for property insurance once a year, $800 per month for heathcare insurance ,then utilities average $580 per month, which does not include home heating oil for the hot water as well as heat is there a way out for us?

Hi,

Social Security is my only area of expertise, so I can't give you any advice on your other finances. If you and your husband are both receiving Social Security disability benefits (SSDI), you're likely already receiving the most that you can get from Social Security. However, if one of you has an SSDI rate that is more than twice as much the other's, the lower earning spouse may be eligible for additional spousal benefits (https://faq.ssa.gov/link/portal/34011/34019/Article/3754/What-is-the-eli...).

Best, Jerry
