Is There Any Way To Increase My Disability Benefits?

Disability benefits

Hi. I'm sorry to hear about your illness. I assume that you are referring to Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits, in which case the answer to your question is probably no. SSDI benefit rates are computed based on an average of a variable number of a person's past years of earnings. The number of years used in the computation depends on your age at the time you become disabled. So, unless you return to work and earn enough to increase the average earnings on which your benefit rate is based, there's probably no way to get a higher SSDI rate except for Social Security cost of living increases.

Best, Jerry
