Shouldn't We Still Be Eligible For SNAP Benefits?

Hi! My 15 month old son with cerebral palsy receives monthly SSI benefits. We are a family of 5 and rely solely on my husband’s income. We are eligible for SNAP benefits, but at our recent re-evaluation they told us we were no longer approved due to our monthly income - my husband’s gross income of $2880 & my son’s SSI benefit of $894. There are two separate charts for being eligible - gross income standard and gross income standard for those over 60 or with a disability. Basically, they’re saying we’re not eligible for snap benefits anymore based on the gross income standards instead of being put under the disabled gross income standards, but yet they’re factoring my son’s disability money into a family of 5’s monthly income. If they’re factoring his disability money should they not also put us in the gross monthly income disabled (165%) tier? Our caseworker told us to file an appeal but won’t answer any of my questions.

Hi. I'm sorry, but my expertise is limited to Social Security benefits. I'm not able to answer questions about SNAP benefits.

Best, Jerry
