Ask Larry

Should My Spouse Be Receiving Benefits?

I am blind. I receive disability benefits. I watched your video does that mean my spouse should be receiving benefits too?

Hi,

The answer to your question depends on a number of factors. To qualify for spousal benefits, your spouse would need to be at least age 62 or have a child who is eligible for benefits on your record in his or her care (https://faq.ssa.gov/link/portal/34011/34019/Article/3754/What-is-the-eli...).
