Should I Contact Social Security About My Appeal?

My husband died in 2020 my petition for survivor spouse was denied and I appealed the decision on time on March 2021 I had have any answers should I need to contact the Social Security or wait for their response Thanks

Hi. I'm sorry for your loss. Yes, I would definitely recommend calling Social Security to check of the status of your appeal. In my experience, it normally doesn't take as long as you've been waiting to receive a determination on the first step of appeal (i.e. reconsideration). Problems from COVID may be causing processing delays, but I would at least check with Social Security to make sure that your appeal is pending.

Best, Jerry
