Will My Payment Date Change In 2022?

i receive my social security check on the 3rd of each month. will my date change in 2022. if so i will have to go for a full month without a check because my date of birth is the 25th of the month. how is this fair and what am i supposed to pay my bills with and buy food each month.

Hi. I don't whether or not your payment date will change. What I can tell you is that based on Social Security law the only people who should be getting paid on the 3rd day of the month are a) people who applied for benefits prior to April 30 1997, or b) people who also receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments, or c) people who are residing outside of the U.S. If you don't meet one of those exceptions, then based on your day of birth your Social Security benefits should be paid on the 4th Wednesday of the month (https://faq.ssa.gov/en-us/Topic/article/KA-01957).

The current Social Security law that governs which days of the month that people are paid was passed into law by Congress in the 1990s, and only Congress can change Social Security laws. So, you'll want to direct your question about the fairness of the law to your representatives in Congress.

Best, Jerry
