I am 73 (married) and I take Social Security with a total income of $40,000 which includes SS. My wife just signed up for Medicare and still working with an income of $140,000 . We file together which causes the IRMMA charge to be with held from my Social Security. How can I avoid the charge IRMMA charge from being taken from my Social Security? Thanks
Bob
Hi Bob. You and your wife could file separate tax returns, but I'm not a tax expert so I don't know if that would be in your best interests. You may want to consult with someone who has expertise in that area.
For more information about how IRMAA is calculated, refer to the following Medicare website: https://www.cms.gov/newsroom/fact-sheets/2023-medicare-parts-b-premiums-....
