If You Live With Your Mother And She Dies Can You Get Her Social Security?

If your mother passes away and you lived with her for 7 years and I get disability can I get her social security.

Hi,

No one can ever legally collect a person's actual Social Security benefits after their death. You can only potentially receive survivor benefits based on a deceased worker's Social Security record. The only way that you'd be eligible for survivor benefits from your mother's record is if you qualify for child's benefits or disabled adult child's (DAC) benefits. Child's benefits can only be paid to children under age 18, or age 18 to 19 if still attending high school. DAC benefits can be paid to unmarried children no matter how old they are, but only if they became disabled prior to age 22.

Best, Jerry
