If My Wife Dies Am I Able To Collect Her Benefits?

If my wife dies is her husband able to collect her benefits like she would if I passed

Hi. The rules for paying survivor benefits is the same for both husbands and wives (https://www.ssa.gov/OP_Home/handbook/handbook.04/handbook-0401.html). The surviving member of a couple can be paid up to the higher of their two benefit rates. They can't be paid both benefits, though, just the higher of the two benefit rates. So, assuming that both you and your wife are collecting benefits, you'll only qualify for widower benefits in the event of your wife's death if her benefit rate is higher than your own benefit rate.

Best, Jerry
