If My Husband Dies Do I Get My Disability And His Social Security?

I am 52 been disabled 5 yrs. My husband after 28 yrs of marraige is67 and gets soc sec. If he dies do I get my disability and his soc. Sec.?

Hi,

You wouldn't get both benefits in full. If your husband's Social Security benefit rate is higher than your disability benefit rate and he dies, you could then receive a partial disabled widow's benefit (DWB) in addition to your own benefit. The DWB benefit rate would be calculated at 71.5% of the difference between your full disability benefit rate and your husband's rate. However, the actual DWB amount could be limited if your husband received reduced retirement benefits.

Best, Jerry
