How Do I Get My Medicare Premiums Refunded?

I got approved for Medicare part B be paid by the state of Missouri in July 2021and my premium is also still being taken out of my SSDI check every month. How do I get my premium refunded back to me?

Hi. Withholding of your Part B Medicare premiums should stop automatically once the state starts paying your premiums, and any refund due should also then be paid to you. When a state pays for a person's Medicare premiums, those payments are made by coordinating your state's computer system and Social Security's computer system. I don't know what the status of that process is in your case, but I wouldn't think that it should take as long as it's apparently taken in your case.

The only suggestion I can think of is to first check with your state agency to make sure that they have actually started paying your Part B premiums. If they have, the best way to get results from Social Security might be to ask the offices of your U.S. representative or one of your U.S. senators to make an inquiry with Social Security on your behalf.

Best, Jerry
