How Do I Get My Ex-Husband's SSN?

I am filling out a registration form for updating my SSI benefits. I need to change the benefits using my Social Security instead of my ex-husband Social Security. To do this you are requiring me to have my ex-husband Social Security number which I don’t have. How do I get that?

Hi. Just to clarify, our website is not in any way connected with the Social Security Administration, so we aren't requiring you to do anything.

It's not clear from your description what exactly you're applying for, but if you're receiving benefits under your husband's Social Security number (SSN) then Social Security should already have a record of his SSN. And, your claim number would then include your husband's SSN. If you don't know your claim number and if you don't have copies of a tax return or other document that shows your ex-spouse's SSN, I would suggest calling Social Security to ask them why the information is necessary.

Best, Jerry
