How Do I Find Out If I'm Due Back Pay From Social Security?

I keep getting conflicting opinions about my remaining ssdi backpay. Ive gad 5 ss reps tell me i was owed 12005 still.2 reps said im paid in full.how do i find out the truth?

Hi. I'm assuming that you've recently been awarded disability benefits. If you had an attorney handling your claim and/or appeal then the attorney should be able to find out and tell you if you have any back pay coming. Otherwise, it's chancy getting reliable information from Social Security representatives. Some are well trained, and others not so much.

If you've received an award letter, that should tell you your date of entitlement and monthly benefit rate. You should then be able to calculate how much if any back pay you might be due. However, if you received both Social Security disability (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI), that complicates matters. My only advice would be that if you don't think that you received the proper amount of benefits, you can file an appeal within 60 days of your award notice (https://www.ssa.gov/ssi/text-appeals-ussi.htm).

Best, Jerry
