I asked SS to discontinue my retirement benefits after receiving them for 5 months. The SS office accidently cancelled my Medicare and as a result my United Healthcare Supplemental. How do I get the error reinstated from United Healthcare. I've paid my premiums although cancelled. The SS office admits the error was theirs and that I filled out the paperwork correctly and that this was their error.
Please Help.
Hi. Assuming that you withdrew only your Social Security retirement benefit application and not your Medicare application (https://www.ssa.gov/benefits/retirement/planner/withdrawal.html), then Social Security should reinstate your Medicare coverage retroactively now that they're apparently aware of their mistake. My expertise is limited to Social Security benefits, though, and since Medicare supplement plans are administered by private insurance companies I can't give you any advice with regard to straightening out your supplement coverage. I would suggest calling the company that administers your supplement plan to discuss the situation with them.
Best, Jerry
