I have been getting my own SSA since 2013 for being disable. Ex-Husband passed September 18th, 2022, I did application for survivors' benefits September 24, 2022, claim was approved May 24. 2022. I was found disabled under survivor's standards March 2021. I was approved for full benefits from December 2021 -April 2022. Don't I qualify for partial benefits starting September 2021-November 2021? How long do it take Social Security to calculate back time owed these days? Will interest be added as they do when you owe them?
Hi. I can't give you a definite answer given the apparent typos on some of the dates in your question and without knowing your date of birth. My answer assumes that your ex-spouse died in September of 2021, not 2022, and that you applied for survivor benefits in September 2021. If that's correct, and if Social Security determined that you became disabled no later than April 1 2021, then you could be entitled to survivor benefits effective with the later of a) the month of your ex's death, or b) the month you turned age 50. Your don't mention your age, but you must be at least age 50 to qualify for disabled surviving divorced spousal benefits.
Social Security's processing times vary, so I can't give you any estimate on when you can expect to start receiving survivor payments. I can tell you that Social Security does not pay interest on back pay, nor do they charge interest on debts owed to Social Security when a person receives an overpayment of benefits.
Best, Jerry
