Do You Have Any Advice For Me?

Hi, I am currently receiving Food Stamps for myself and my eighteen-year-old son. We are living on Medicaid, and the money we receive monthly is from our Child Care Benefits. They will continue until my son is 21 years old. Although I am 63, I just applied for my Social Security retirement benefits, so I could cover my monthly expenses, which are well over $2500. I am afraid of losing Medicaid or Food Stamps coverage and need advice on how to move forward so I can keep my Co-operative Apartment. Please help me. I am doing my best to stay afloat but I am merely surviving. I want to have a life.
Thank you for your time,

Best regards.
Phyllis

Hi Phyllis,

I'm sorry, but Social Security is my only area of expertise. I do know that both food stamps and Medicaid are needs based benefits, so if you start receiving more income as a result of filing for Social Security it could affect your eligibility for those benefits.

You may want to consider using the maximization software available on this website to determine your best strategy with regard to Social Security, but I can't offer you any advice with regard to the other benefits that you're receiving.

Best, Jerry
