Do I Need To Contact Social Security When I Turn Age 62 If I'm Getting Disability Benefits?

Hi larry I just turned 62 and I am already on Social Security Disablility. do I need contact SS ?? a friend told me I would get a raise in benifts. ??

Hi,

Probably not. Unless your Social Security disability rate is being reduced due to the receipt of Workers Compensation or a Public Disability benefit, there is likely no reason that your benefit rate could be increased simply because you're turning age 62.

The only other possibility is if you have children and or a spouse who are receiving benefits on your record and their benefit rates are being reduced due the family maximum benefit. In that case it could potentially be advantageous for you to switch to drawing reduced retirement benefits if it would increase total family benefits.

Best, Jerry
