Do I Need To Apply For Early Social Security Retirement If I Leave SSDI?

do I need to apply for early retirement on social security retirement if I leave ssdi insurance

Hi. You aren't required to apply for Social Security retirement benefits if your Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits are terminated prior to your full retirement age (FRA). If you are entitled to SSDI benefits and if that entitlement continues until the month you reach FRA, your SSDI benefits automatically convert to regular Social Security retirement benefits. But, if your SSDI benefits are terminated due to work or medical improvement prior to the month you reach FRA, then you would need to apply for Social Security retirement benefits whenever you want those benefits to begin.

Best, Jerry
