Can I Start Drawing My Social Security Now At Age 54 With My Doctor's Approval?

Last worked full time in 2011. Received un-employment 5-2011 to 5-2013. (While job searching, fell ill, with no diagnosis until)... Diagnosed with Early onset Parkinson's in 2013 at age 47. Attempted part time work from 6-2013 to 6-2015. Here's where I made my grave mistake!! I came to a crossroad where I made a decision to take in my dying father and did not file for disability in the time frame allowed I'm guessing. Always assumed if you paid into it for all my working years, that it would be there when I needed it. After father passed and I was free to try the workforce again, I realized how bad my own illness had eaten away from me. and filed for disability in 2019. Still fighting a year later with 3 denials, 3 appeals under my belt. Appealing with ALJ presently. They've torn me and my medical records and my choices apart, in order to justify their denials.
All I am asking for is to draw from my Social Security at my present age now (54) I don't want a huge settlement dating back to 2015/16. Can I draw at this age with current doctor approval and backing? Because the reality is, Im not making it to retirement age. No golden years for me i'm afraid. Meds for this disease VERY expensive, with no cure or improvement in sight. Only deterioration.

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear about your illness.

I wish I could offer you better news, but the only way that you can possibly collect Social Security benefits based on your own work history prior to age 62 is if you qualify for Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits. It sounds like you've taken the appropriate steps to appeal the disallowance of your claim for SSDI benefits to the Hearings level, so I hope you receive a favorable ruling there.

Best, Jerry
