Can I Hold Social Security Liable For Not Telling Me I'd Get A Lower Benefit Rate If I Received Back Pay?

Can I hold social security liable for not telling me about how u lose percentage if u collect a 6 month lump sum money

Hi,

I doubt it, but you may be able to fix your problem by requesting a different month of entitlement. For example, if you intended to start drawing benefits at age 70 but you opted for taking 6 months of back pay instead you could submit a written request to change your month of entitlement back to age 70 (https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0200204047). However, doing so would require you to repay the 6 months of back pay that you previously received.

Best, Jerry
