Hi. If you're separated but not divorced, then you could only qualify for spousal benefits if your husband is collecting either Social Security retirement or disability benefits. Even if he is drawing benefits, though, the only way you'd be eligible for spousal benefits is if your husband's primary insurance amount (PIA) is more than twice as much as your own PIA. A person's PIA is equal to their Social Security retirement benefit rate if they start drawing their benefits at full retirement age (FRA).
