Can I Collect Money From My Ex-Husband's Account?

I was married for over 20 years. My ex-husband then remarried and he recently passed away.I have been receiving $94.00 a month for years.. At my current age of 82, can I collect money from my ex-husband's account instead of my own?? Thank you.
Sincerely, Anna

Hi Anna,

Possibly. If your ex-husband's Social Security benefit rate was higher than your own rate, it sounds like you may qualify to receive his higher rate instead of yours. You should probably contact Social Security as soon as possible to see if you qualify for surviving divorced spousal benefits.

Best, Jerry
