Can I Collect Long Term Disability And Still Get My Retirement Money?

Can I collect long term disability and still get my retirement money

Hi. If you're referring to Long Term Disability (LTD) benefits from an employer plan or private insurance plan, then whether or not you could draw both your LTD payments and Social Security benefits depends on the terms of your LTD policy. All I can tell you for sure is that drawing LTD payments from a private insurance company would not adversely affect any Social Security benefits for which you may qualify. However, most employer and private insurance LTD plans include a provision that offsets a person's LTD payments by the amount of their Social Security benefits, but I don't know if that's true in the case of your LTD plan.

On the other hand, if you're referring to drawing both Social Security disability (SSDI) and Social Security retirement benefits at the same time then the answer is no. No one is allowed to collect both Social Security disability (SSDI) and Social Security retirement benefits at the same time

Best, Jerry
