Can I Change My Payment Date To The 3rd Of The Month So That I Can Pay My Rent?

my landlord want me to pay my rent by the 3rd of the month or I will be evicted but my check comes the 3rd Wednesday of the month, can I request them to change it to the 3rd of the month.the property was sold and they won't wait til the 3rd wednesday.

Hi. No. The day of the month on which your benefit is paid is determined by the Social Security regulations and can't be voluntarily changed. The regulations that determine your payment date were established by Congress in 1997. Since that time, the only people who are paid their Social Security benefits on the 3rd day of the month are the following:

a) People who first filed for benefits before May 1997; or,
b) People who are receiving both Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security payments; or,
c) People who live in a foreign country; or,
d) People whose Medicare premiums are paid by the state where they live.

If you don't meet one of the above exceptions, then your benefits are paid on either the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Wednesday of the month depending on the birthday of the person on whose account you receive benefits (https://faq.ssa.gov/en-us/Topic/article/KA-01957).

Best, Jerry
