Am I Subject To WEP?

I was hired january 1984 by the postal service. Before that i worked for the the postal service Oct 1983 for 3 months and was terminated. am i subject to the wep.

Hi,

I can't answer that without additional information. If you receive a pension based in whole or in part on your work and earnings that were exempt from Social Security taxes, then your Social Security retirement or disability benefits could be subject to reduction based on WEP (Windfall Elimination Provision). However, there are some exceptions to WEP such as having at least 30 years of 'substantial' earnings on which you paid Social Security taxes. For more information on WEP and it's exceptions, refer to this Social Security publication: https://www.ssa.gov/pubs/EN-05-10045.pdf.

Best, Jerry
