Am I Entitled To Continue Receiving SSDI?

I was getting social security disability, $26 dollars a month but I got medic aid. I was awarded 70% VA disability, $1,451 monthly and $656 retirement. Because of my VA compensation I lost my medicaid and my SSDI of $26 dollars. So my income is $1,451 plus $656 a total of $2,107. Am I entitled to continue receiving my SSDI?

Hi,

Social Security disability benefits (SSDI) aren't needs based, so your VA benefits shouldn't have caused them to stop. Are you sure that you weren't receiving SSI (Supplemental Security Income) disability payments instead? Those benefits are needs based, and the amount of income that you receive from the VA would make you ineligible for SSI. Medicaid is also a needs based program, but I'm not an expert on that program and don't know whether or not you could qualify.

Best, Jerry
