Am I Eligible To Draw Early Social Security?

I retires from local government with a pension at 55 with 30 yrs of service withe fire department. Am I eligible to draw early social security?

Hi,

The only way that you could draw Social Security benefits based on your own work record prior to age 62 is if you qualify for Social Security disability benefits. And, if you're are receiving a pension based on your earnings that were exempt from Social Security taxes it may reduce the amount of Social Security benefits for which you would otherwise qualify. For more information on the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP), refer to the following Social Security publication: https://www.ssa.gov/pubs/EN-05-10045.pdf.

Best, Jerry
