Will Only The Last Couple Months Of My Earnings Count Toward Social Security's Limit?

I will retire from post office in september 2018 can i file for social security 3 months before i retire. Will my earned income towards limit only count the last couple months of my postal salary. age 64

Hi,

Your total earnings from January 1 through December 31 will count toward the $17,040 annual earnings test exempt amount this year. However, you could be paid for any month(s) in which you earn $1420 or less regardless of your total earnings for the calendar year (https://www.ssa.gov/planners/retire/rule.html).

Before filing, you should consider using our maximization software in order to compare your filing options and determine your best strategy.

Best, Jerry
