Will I Even Qualify For Retirement Benefits?

I didn't receive my SSI benefit on the first of May because I didn't apply for retirement benefits before I turn 62 on June 2 of this year. I called social security administration and they explained how they will call me this month on a certain date and time. Will I even qualify for retirement benefits? Ronny

Hi Ronny. As long as you have a total of at least 40 quarters (QC) of Social Security credits, then you should qualify for Social Security retirement benefits starting with June (https://www.ssa.gov/oact/cola/QC.html). Social Security pays retirement benefits a month behind, though, so your first payment wouldn't be due until July.

Best, Jerry
