Was I Mistaken About the New Law?

My wife reached age 66 in May 2015 and did not begin taking a SS benefit. Her benefit will be lower than mine because I had a higher earnings history. I reach age 66 in July 2016, but I intend to keep working and not take a SS benefit until I reach age 70. I had planned to file and suspend in July 2016, and my wife would begin to take spousal benefits. However, I thought we could not use that strategy because I did not reach age 66 by April 29, 2016. Was I mistaken? Under that belief, we decided to use a different strategy, and my wife has now begun to take her SS benefit. I intend to file a restricted application in July 2016, and begin taking a spousal benefit. Is that best for us? If we were entitled to use the file and suspend strategy, can my wife's action be undone now? Thank you.

Deutero,
No, you were not mistaken. Only those born on or before 1 May 2016 could follow your original strategy. Yes, this is your best strategy.
Best,
Mike
