Who Is Right, Me Or The Social Security Employee I Spoke With?

I just got off the phone with our local social security office. I explained to the agent that I have continued working after retirement, and the last few years I saw an increase in my social security payment , for instance 2018 displaced one of the 35 years social security used to arrive at my current payment. The agent told me that was not true, that once I retired whether I continued to work or not, my benefit was not recalculated, that I was locked in, that what I was seeing was a cost of living increase.

Should I File A SSA-561?

I was born in October, 1949. I was able to do a file and suspend before the deadline in April 2016. In March 2018 I received a letter from Social Security that my potential benefit had increased to $3,240.10 to give me credit for the past months that I had delayed receiving retirement benefits. Later in 2018 I started benefits and received my first check on 10/17/2018.

I have not received credit or benefits for the period January through October 2018.

Having read your answers to others regarding delayed retirement credits, I have been patient.

Should Social Security Pay Me Back Pay?

I have received a letter from social security stating "we changed your monthly benefit to $_______ as of October 2020. We found that your prior amount was incorrect. We changed your benefit amount to give you credit for your earnings. We did not include these earnings when we figured your benefit amount before."
The amount difference is about $48 more a month. My question is should they probably be going back & giving me this amount from the beginning when I started drawing social security???? Please advise.

Do You Know When SSA Might Catch Up With Recomputing Benefits?

I began receiving SS at my full retirement age while continuing to work. Each March I have received an additional bump when they update my earnings from the previous year. Our tax returns have always been filed the first of February, however, I have not yet received that bump from working all of 2019, my highest earning year ever! I suppose this has been due to COVID-19 furloughs. Do you know when the SSA might catch up? Thanks

Should Social Security Have Adjusted The Rate Of Benefits I Collected Prior To FRA?

Hi Larry, Back on October 19, 2017 I submitted a question that you filed under "Recomputations"
"When Will My Benefit Rate Increase ................. Benefits Were Suspended"
Well. Now I am 67 in May 2020, they just did the adjustment, sent a letter and did a one time payment.
You called it a AFR, Reduction Factor Adjustment back in your 2017 answer.

Will I See An Increase In My Survivor Benefit Rate If Some Of My Benefits Were Withheld Due To The Earnings Test?

I receive survivor benefits, and had 18 months withheld due to the earnings test. I'm 66 now (FRA). Will I see an increase in my benefit to recover what was withheld? I know this is the case for an individuals regular benefit but have not seen an answer regarding survivor benefit. I turned 66 5 months ago.

What Happens To The Social Security I'm Paying Now?

I retired and am receiving trs and 1/2 of my social security benefits on my own record. I am divorced after 35 years of marriage and have not remarried. My ex-spouse is retired receiving social security benefits and has remarried. I have since had to go back to work and pay into social security. What happens to the social security I am paying in now? I am 70 years of age.

When Will My Benefit Rate Be Recalculated To Give Me Credit For The Months That My Benefits Were Suspended?

I had to start my retirement benefits @ 62 (2015) due to being unemployed for many months prior to my birthday, which is in May. Latter that year I was fortunate to become reemployed and continue to receive benefits for remainder of the year (2015). For 2016 and present year (2017), my benefits are suspended due to earnings test and also anticipate same for next year, 2018. In January of 2019, my 66th birthday year, I'm assuming my checks will start back up based on the 1/3 earnings test and receive partial payments (based on $60,000 annual income).
