Can You Get SS in A Lump Sum?

I HEARD THAT YOU CAN GET SS IN A LUMP SUM IS THIS TRUE OR NOT?

Hi,

If you mean can you get a refund of Social Security taxes paid, or a lump sum payment in lieu of receiving monthly benefits, then no you can't.

In some cases, people entitled to monthly benefits don't receive them timely for various reasons, and in those cases Social Security will pay them a lump sum to cover the past monthly benefits that they're due. There is also a $255 lump sum death benefit that may be paid to surviving spouses, or minor or disabled children, of people who die that were insured for Social Security benefits.

Best, Jerry
